Description
“Second Song” is the second studio album Neil Young has recorded with the band The Chrome Hearts,
and their third album overall, following the live album “As Time Explodes.”
“Second Song” was produced by Lou Adler and The Volume Dealers (Neil Young and Niko Bolas), while Anthony LoGerfo and Manny Adler are credited as associate producers.
The album contains seven songs written by Young.
Five of them are completely new and previously unreleased, while the other two are previously unreleased versions of “Casting Me Away From You” and “I Will Love You Forever.”
The semi-acoustic album musically builds on Neil Young’s earlier albums, such as “Comes A Time” and “Prairie Wind.”
On the new album, each song seems to revolve around new ways of looking at the past, the present, and the future. The lyrics of the title track set the tone: “Through the smoking pages of time, the words simply fell forward into this second song of mine…” Young’s own feelings seem to merge with those that many of his loyal listeners carry within them, as if music were still a place to find wonder and draw strength. The songs offer a glimpse into the feelings that give Neil Young the faith and strength to confront the challenges and divisions we face.
